What Are The Components In IoT?

Wondering how IoT has made human living very easy and comfortable?? Here’s how!!!

(Source:https://images.app.goo.gl/8BHDqteNUC2GS3p4A)

In simple words, IoT refers to a system where without human intervention, there is an exchange of information(basically communicating with things which don’t speak?, how wonderful is that!!!!).

In today’s world, IoT is bringing a massive impact on human life, right from your doorstep to massive industries, where we capture the whole world with just a finger tap just because of “INTERNET OF THINGS”.

GOOD TO BEGIN WITH PAST-(BIRTH OF IoT)

The idea of connected devices has been since the ’70s but back then it was refer to as “embedded internet” or “pervasive computing”.

The term IoT was coin by “Kevin Ashton” in the year 1999 and also establishes MIT’s Auto-ID Center, a global research network of academic laboratories focused on RFID and the IoT.

NOW THE ACTUAL POINT!! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??

Components In IoT

Many elements make IoT communication possible, but mainly it consists of the following components, which helps devices communicate are:-

  • Sensors
  • Gateway
  • Cloud
  • Connectivity
  • Data processing
  • User interface

Let us understand this briefly:

SENSORS:

IoT is like a sweet without sweetness when sensors are not a part of it. however, Sensors are the devices that respond to the changes (inputs like pressure, touch, light, sound, etc) and send the appropriate output to those changes.

GATEWAY:

Gateway suggests the bridge of communication between two devices. IoT gateway follows the same principle. It is also the bridge of communication between devices/sensors and the internet(connection point between cloud and controllers). It is also refer as an intelligent gateway.

CLOUD:

Sensors in IoT devices collect billions of data!! To store and secure the data, thus, sensors talk to the cloud through connectivity. Cloud allows easy access to huge data whenever required. Once data gets into the cloud, it is processed and the required action is performed.

CONNECTIVITY:

Connecting is no doubt an essential thing in IoT. Connecting things to sensors/devices has many options like Bluetooth, satellite, cellular, ethernet, etc. If a perfect connection is establish then the power consumption of the device will be very less and bandwidth will be huge.

DATA PROCESSING:

The data we receive from the sensors has to make sense to us, right!!. In simple words, converting collected data into some useful, thus, readable information is data processing.

USER INTERFACE:

This is essential for users to interact with devices. As the name suggests, the user uses computer applications, software to communicate with IoT devices.

Below is the example which describes the complete working of IoT

Is traveling your hobby?? And while you travel do you worry about the essentials kept at your house???

(Source:https://images.app.goo.gl/4S2tLyG9QYJmM7MFA)

Here is the solution to keep your home theft free!!!

Your house can be protected with the help of basic sensors which will give you notification on your mobile phone as recorded by the sensors!

The sensor that can be used are, LDR, sound sensors, and touch sensors.

Sensors are placed on all the doorknobs and also on all your valuable things in your house. Now, if there is a slight noise, or if someone has tried to touch the doorknob or if someone has somehow managed to enter your house(maybe the door is not closed properly?) “Don’t you worry!!!”

The sensors are now the caretakers of your house. Let’s understand this briefly

The noise sensor will sense the noise and if any noise is detected, it will immediately communicate to your mobile phone and send you an alert!

If the thief fails to make any noise, No worries!!! We have a backup plan

The touch sensor will send us the alerts if your doorknobs or valuable things are being touched or if the lights of your house are turned on, the LDR will respond and send you an alert message immediately! These sensors here are communicating with your mobile phone through a wifi module(ESP8266, BOLT, etc)

NOW, THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!

It is called “SMART HOME SECURITY”

This is how IoT makes human living easy. A notification on your phone can save your life earnings! This is the power of technology!

There are numerous such examples and real-time applications of IoT. For instances

  • Plant monitoring systems
  • Home automation
  • Weather predictions
  • Alexa
  • Internet-connected baby monitors
  • Smartwatches etc etc

The future of IoT is limitless and will have numerous applications. It is predicted that in the coming years, the IoT industry will reach a mark of 1,463.19 billion USD by 2027.
