Sensors And Actuators In IoT

The sensor converts an Analog signal to a readable digital output.

Types of Sensors:

thus, There are different types of sensors. Some of them are:

  • Temperature Sensor
  • Ultrasonic Sensor
  • Accelerometer
  • Proximity Sensor

1. Temperature sensors

Temperature Sensor is a device, used to measure the amount of heat energy that hence allows the detection of a physical change in temperature from a particular source and converts the data.

howeverThese sensors have been deployed for IoT for a long time.

Before they were used in mostly A/C control, refrigerators, and similar devices used for environmental control. However, In IoT, they have found their role in the agriculture and health industry and many more.

2. Proximity sensor

A device that detects the presence or absence of a nearby object, and also converts that signal can easily read by the user or a simple electronic instrument without getting in contact with them.

However, Proximity sensors – largely use in the industry.

Another amazing use is in vehicles. When you are reversing your car there a sound for precaution of an obstacle, that’s the work of a proximity sensor.

What IoT Used for?

IoT innovation made it is the reason we can connect everyday things to the internet. Nowadays, almost all things, such as houses, office buildings, factories, and even cities connect to the network to collect data and exchange information with the help of IoT.

Sensors play an important role in IoT.
They are devices can also extract information, and help with a signal that humans and machines can distinguish. Sensors made it possible to collect data and however easy to use in fields like- medical care, transportation, agriculture, disaster prevention, tourism, etc.

Introduction to Actuator

An actuator is a device that covers any electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Types of Actuators

Some types of actuators are:

  • Electric motors
  • Comb drive
  • Stepper motors

Stepper Motor

Stepper motors are more likely DC motors that move in a discrete number of steps. They also have multiple coils in groups called “phases”. The motor will rotate, one step at a time, it gives a very precise positioning and speed control so everything goes smoothly.

Difference Between Sensors And Actuators

SensorActuator
It takes physical input and converts to electrical signals. It takes electrical signals and converts to physical output.
generates information about the environment.also accepts the command and performs a function.
It is placed at the input port of the system. It is placed at the output port of the system.
Sensor generated electrical signals. The actuator generates heat or motion.
